The exit pass linked in this post has proven to be a popular download from my Teachers Pay Teacher Store so I thought I had better do a quick post and share it on here.
Below is the video link to the Disney Pixar animated short ‘Piper’.
It’s a lovely coming of age story about a young bird who learns how to overcome an obstacle and his fears. He not only overcomes the obstacles, but flips it into an opportunity. He learns by watching others, and then shares his success with his community.
As you can imagine there are many different lessons to be pulled from this animated short. There is plenty of room for small group discussions on what happens in the story, and how the different characters add to Piper’s journey. Below is the link to an exit pass that has some questions around this on it. It helps students to unpack the characters, developments and start pulling out ideas around the lessons we can learn from it.
Since Piper is a short animated film, it also gives opportunity to have discussions around the animation and film choices. The slideshow below can be used as a short film study, as it has questions to guide discussions. The questions could be used to generate some thinking before a film review task, so that students have an idea of the types of questions they should be answering when they write their review.
The link on the left will take you to the Google slides that have questions from the Exit Pass as well as some extras to encourage a wider discussion on the film, and a personal response. The link to the free Pixar film on youtube is included on the first slide.

The resource on the right are worksheets generated from the Google Slides Resources. It includes three different sheets to choose from, based on your class, and the direction of your film study.
Hopefully this online resource will be useful in a range of settings and with different age group. I would love to hear how you have used or adapted it to suit your students. Please share in the comments below or go to our facebook page.
