Stuck for what to do at home?

There are so many ideas and articles around at the moment on ideas of what you can be doing at home with your children during this time. For many this will be a daunting time, but at the same time it could an opportunity to create memories and learning moments with your family.

People all over the world are being so generous with their resources, ideas and time. I’ll continue to read and share thoughts and ideas as I find them, I think we could all use some fresh inspiration!

National Geographic has access to past issues of the kids magazine online for FREE at the moment. They also have a great kids website, with plenty to learn.

Why not do some colouring in or drawing while listening to an audiobook? Audible also has free content available at the moment. There are also plenty of free colouring in sheets to print in the links below.

Plenty of classic books are available online for free. Many of us don’t have access to libraries at the moment, so this may be the perfect solution, especially for those older keen readers:

Project Gutenberg is a library of over 60,000 free eBooks. Choose among free epub and Kindle eBooks, download them or read them online

Someone has created an extensive calendar with virtual field trips for everyday, as well as more links to activities and challenges (the learning opportunities with this one are endless! Also a good one for kids to do independently):

Kids have a lot of energy. Do some form of exercise everyday to keep them mentally and physically happy and healthy. Whether that’s going for a walk outside, playing on the trampoline, or doing an indoor fitness session:

Our Favorite Virtual P.E. Resources to Keep Kids Moving at Home

Skype Grandparents and family – Grandparents are getting bored stuck at home too, so why not facetime them? Give the phone to your kids for a while and let them tell the grandparents all the things they’ve been up to at home. If they are close by, why not play a game of naughts and crosses on the window like they did at a Retirement Village.

Brush up, or start the journey of learning Te Reo with your little ones. This free apps has games to make it easy and fun.

Baking – Hop on to youtube for plenty of kid friendly baking and cooking tutorials – it may inspire your kids to make their own tutorial. There are also plenty of simple recipes out there for you to make without a tutorial video – just have a google.

Board games – It’s a good plan to balance screen time, so encourage your family to play a board game together, or task your kids with creating their own.

Crafts – There are endless ideas for crafts to do at home. My main suggestion for ideas is pinterest, but here are some ideas to get you started:

Also don’t forget about the power of Pinterest. While you’re scrolling on your phone, pop over to Pinterest, start a new board to collect ideas, and start pinning. You’ll find a couple of people who have heaps of cool ideas that are worth giving a follow.
